ForChristSake @ The Pavilion – 18/05/2010
May 29, 2010 No CommentsIn my view, ForChristSake are a very talented band with a lot to offer the music world
They represent a genre many may not have heard of – Othra Metal. This translates as ‘orthodox metal’ or ‘Christian metal’ and merges the slipknot/metallica/Panthera style with deep spiritual lyrics.
Upon entering the Pavilion, I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but when the band took to the stage to play their first song, I knew tonight was going to be one to remember.
They opened up with a new song called Extraction. Within minutes of the first blistering riff, the crowd took off and many began head banging to the music, a good sign!
The crowd was starting to jump with increasing madness at the sound of pure metal blasting through their ears.
I myself was enjoying every minute of it and wanted to get involved and join in with the rest but had photographs to take and a review to write!
It didn’t help that ForChristSake’s opener was so energetic, it would have gotten anyone pumped up and ready to mosh!
The entire band interacted with each other throughout the performance, exceptionally tight and with the main vocalist enjoying plenty of banter with the crowd, making the atmosphere both involving and intimate.
Highlights of the set included, “Death is but a breath away”, a very heavily fuelled track that stimulated the moshers into a frenzy and “sleep”, where both guitarists (Simon and Luke) and vocalist (Guy) maintained phenomenal control of their instruments, deep growls and stunning lead solos abound!
The drummer, Rab, also deserves a mention (they are so often unfairly ignored!), putting in an effortless display of constant motion, which was nice to see, as there’s nothing worse than a lifeless drummer.
He also connected well with Bassist, Mark, whose main influence was most certainly Metallica, his style edging towards Rob Truillo (Metallica member since 2003).
The Pavilion turned out to be a fantastic venue for showcasing what was on the whole, a hugely entertaining night; its larger stage allowing the five piece band room to breath, engaging as many crazy moshers as possible!
The crowd was very supportive, receiving the encore with considerable enthusiasm, especially as the band treated everyone with an amazing new track, ‘Last Call’, which all metal-heads should check out if they get a chance at the band’s next performances (June 26th and 27th @ Exodus and the Pavilion respectively).
You won’t regret seeing these guys live. They always put on a great show with an exceptional stage presence, which is essential for performing artists.
